Flex on the Beach, Sunday, September 15th!

Written on August 28, 2013

We at Kettlebell Kitchen are proud to be sponsoring a fun and unique CrossFit competition: FLEX ON THE BEACH, presented by CrossFit King of Island Park. Yes, that’s right, a CrossFit competition ON A BEACH-no shoes required! ;) Not only are we sponsoring, we’ll also have a booth at the competition, so come by and say hi, whether you’re a competitor or a spectator!

Here’s the info:

Long Beach’s Most Elite Functional Fitness Competition: Flex on the Beach!

On Sunday, September 15th, 200 co-ed teams will storm the beaches of Long Island for the most elite functional fitness event in the History of Long Beach. Four WODs, 2 on the sand and a Championship WOD for qualifying Rx teams.

Registration includes tickets to the post-competition Bar Crawl. Transportation for the Bar Crawl is provided by the City of Long Beach and several area hot spots are offering free beverages for Flex Athletes and Spectators.

Every Athlete a Judge. Every Judge an Athlete
To ensure movement standards are upheld and competition is fair we are having athletes act as judges for the 4 rotating WOD stations. There will be full time judges on site to assist, but every athlete should come ready to judge. What better way to know the standards?

Easy in. Easy out.
The Long Island Rail Road will bring you to and from the event. There is a station only a few blocks from the competition area. The train runs all night so you can compete, attend the Bar Crawl and then ride the train home.

Rx or Scaled?
Not sure? Visit the Event Page for more info.

We were proud sponsors of the recent “Mayhem in the Meadowlands” CrossFit competition (which we posted about on Monday) and we wanted to bring you more photos from that wonderful event:

Our very own Pam…COMPETING!

And Pam shared this pic with the whole KB Kitchen team because it was one of her favorites. Pam volunteers with Steve’s Club, which brings CrossFit to at-risk youth across the country. The local Steve’s Club chapter had some older teens competing including Reggie, pictured below:

“Mayhem” & More Great Press!

And we’re psyched to have more good press come our way: Groupon.com has a news story up, “Paleo in NYC: Where to Eat, How to Shop, and Why to Try It” that mentions Kettlebell Kitchen and interviews our founder, Joe:

“The paleo diet focuses on high-quality proteins, such as meat, fish, and eggs; vegetables; fruits; and healthy fats. It also eliminates grains, dairy, and legumes. Proponents argue that it’s the food humans evolved to eat. They’re ‘the foods we were eating before the Agricultural Revolution,’ says Joe Lopez, president of Kettlebell Kitchen, which delivers ready-to-heat meals to CrossFit gyms across New York City.

But it’s not all about cavemen. ‘The paleo diet, first and foremost, tries to eliminate processed foods and added sugars and things that shouldn’t be in your diet,’ Joe says. While some people’s systems ‘may have evolved to be able to handle grains and dairy,’ he says many people don’t realize these ingredients are causing ‘inflammation’ in their systems.”
